Decision Critical Founder and CEO Completes Second Annual San Francisco Half Marathon In Memory of Eileen Bowden, RN

Annual run raises scholarship funds and awareness

AUSTIN, Texas, July 29, 2010  - Decision Critical, Inc. (Decision Critical) announced today that founder and CEO, Kenneth W. Dion, RN, has again successfully completed his annual San Francisco half marathon run in memory of Eileen Bowden, RN. For the past two years, Dion has trained, run, and raised scholarship funds in memory of Bowden in an effort to increase awareness around the need for future professional nurses.

In April 2009, Santa Clara High School’s staff nurse, Eileen Bowden, performed CPR on the school’s softball coach after he collapsed with no pulse after a team practice. Bowden’s actions kept the coach alive until paramedics arrived at the school, but then nurse Bowden collapsed. Tragically, she died en route to the local medical center.

In August 2009, Dion first ran the San Francisco half-marathon in memory of Bowden in an effort to raise funds for nursing scholarships and to increase awareness around the critical need for future professional nurses. His efforts raised over $3,200 toward the Eileen Bowden Memorial Scholarship Fund, administered through the Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association. This scholarship supports nursing students making the personal sacrifices necessary to emulate professional excellence in nursing as exemplified by Bowden.

On July 25, 2010, Dion again ran the half marathon, again in memory of Bowden. He has raised $2,000 to date toward the Eileen Bowden Memorial Scholarship Fund. His fund raising efforts continue at charity.decisioncritical.com. All donations received are tax deductible and will directly benefit the Eileen Bowden Memorial Scholarship Fund.

“I am not a runner,” said Dion. “John F. Kennedy once said that, ‘We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do other things . . . not because they are easy, but because they are hard.’ In an effort to bring increased attention to our need for future professional nurses, I chose this event because it was hard. I wanted people to know that this was something that I take very, very seriously. I believe that the importance of nurses like Eileen lives on in her memory, and if we do not recognize and make others aware of the need for exceptional nurses like Eileen, they will not be there when we need them. We must all support aspiring nurses financially while they make the hard personal sacrifices on their journey to becoming a professional nurse.”

"At Texas Tech’s Anita Thigpen Perry School of Nursing, we have also identified the value that an electronic portfolio provides to our faculty members and our organization. Faculty members can track promotions, document teaching accomplishments for tenure, store publications in one place and record other examples of professional success. From an organizational perspective, the value of being able to take a collective view of our faculty and then make pragmatic decisions based on the institution’s needs is immeasurable. Critical Portfolio™, the electronic portfolio solution by Decision Critical, meets all of those needs - and more!"
